Time Off

I will be taking a few weeks off from my blog. I had a very bad day yesterday(now that American Idol song is flowing through my brain)...I found out my sis in law is having twins. I am so so so happy for them, but it just put me in a bad place at the same time. I am getting nothing but upsetting information about the wait (2-3 years), the tightening of China's criterea(there are some things that could disqualify us once we are in China's "review room"-which won't be until the spring), and I am hearing more and more that they are looking to shut down but agencies won't tell us that because they would lose money. Until I can get a part of my sunshine sparkle-sparkle personality back-and I will, I have to or I'll drive myself and everyone around me nuts-I will be taking a break from my blog. Thanks for understanding : )

A beautiful wish and secret pal gift!

Amy M gave me the most creative and beautiful wish. She obviously put many hours of love into it. Here is a picture of it-the poem she put on it is below. I can't read it without bursting into tears! So sweet!

KISSES IN THE WIND

~ A wish for Amelie ~

I hold you in my heart and touch you in my dreams.
You are here each day with me, at least that's how it seems.

I know you wonder where we are... what's taking us so long.
But remember child, I love you so and God will keep you strong.

Now go outside and feel the breeze and let it touch your skin...
Because tonight, just as always, I blow you kisses in the wind.

May God hold you in His hand until I can be with you.
I promise you, my darling, I'm doing all that I can do.

Very soon, you'll have a family for real, not just pretend.
But for tonight, just as always, I blow you kisses in the wind.

May God wrap you in His arms and hold you very tight.
And let the angels bring the kisses that I send to you each night.

Also got my packages from my secret pal and book pal this week! Thought I'd show off what I got!

What is your waiting style?

This is great-straight from another freaking out, I mean patiently waiting mother. Her posts make mine seem lame-o. Check this and others out at www.the nakedovary.typepad.com

Personally, I think I am a little of each of the following and you can totally get that from all my posts: I am a cross between the Freaker and Eeyore Wannabe with a little bit of the Shopper in me and the Weenie Alcoholic on weekends. I am striving to be the Ignorance is Bliss, and I am getting better at it...only going to Rumor Queen's webpage 5-6 times a day, rather than the usual 5-6 times an hour. Although we are active in our church I am far from the God's Special Disciple.

Remember I didn't write this, so if you are a waiting parent, don't get offended!

The Naked Ovary presents

WAITING STYLES OF THE er....WAITING AND NOT-SO-FAMOUS

*******

THE SHOPPER

To numb the pain of the wait, the shopper goes on various daily or weekly shopping excursions where she will spend hundreds of $$$$ on everything from frivolous baby onesies that say things like “My Mom Is Blogging This” to pacifiers in the shape of bugs that snap shut before they hit the ground. (Not me! Not me! Okay, me.)

*

Sample post:

Today I bought more clothes again! If this keeps up I won’t be able to afford to take care of the actual kid!

*

Hang outs: Gymboree sales, Babies r Us, ATM machines

Gag gift: A note from the bank indicating a negative balance. (Watch the hilarity ensue!)

*******

THE INDUSTRIOUS LITTLE BEAVER

This person is mega crafty, to the point where you are seriously jealous of her talent and drive. She sews and she pieces together quilts and she decorates nurseries and she sculpts and she paints and she takes stunning photographs. And she makes dinner, cleans, and usually takes care of kids and a husband, too. Basically, she is kick ass and makes really good use of the wait.

*

Sample post:

Today I made a quilt, four sweaters, and painted the nursery this awesome shade of spring green I ordered from a store in Europe. Then I took a picture of my daughter, and a photography magazine called and said they’d like to buy it! Tomorrow I'm going to make something out of this awesome nineteenth century fabric I bought at an auction.

*

Hang outs: Knitting circles, fabric swaps.

Gag gift: A camera that squirts ink when you hold it to your eye, a knitting needle that self-destructs after ten hours of use.

  • NOTE: I am in awe of these people. I wish I was one of them.

*********

EEYORE WANNABE

This person is completely and utterly depressed and can’t seem to be happy. Everything sucks and everything is miserable. She can't do much of anything except whine. (Guilty as charged.)

*

Sample post:

Everything sucks. I hate this wait. I can’t deal with it anymore. Wah waaaaaaaaaaaah waaaahhhhh.

*

Hang outs: Bed.

Gag gift: Inspirational decals with bunnies and kitties wrapped hopelessly up in yarn saying things like “Chin up!” and “Nothing Is That Bad!” written in fancy script.

**********

WEENIE ALCOHOLIC

This person drowns all their sorrows in drink, but because she is no longer a sprightly young 20 year old and is quite a lightweight, one or two is usually enough to zonk her out at the kick-ass time of 8 pm. (Erm...are all of these people moi?)

*

Sample post:

Does vodka go better with Peanut Butter Cap’n Crunch than milk? Or tequila? Because I'm thinking the peanut butter and lime might be yummy.

*

Hang outs: TGIFridays, every day of the week

Gag gift: A case of O’Douls with the labels peeled off and new ones reading "Super Alcoholic Beer, Beware" pasted on

************

MEAN OLE BULLY

This person is so frustrated with the wait that she goes on the Internet (or trolls around in “real life”) looking for a brawl. She doesn't do much else except exercise her fists with one of those hand-squeezy things. Swears a lot. (Shudda up.)

*

Sample post:

So then this idiot with the screen name of BeHappy,It’sInHisPerfectTiming posted and I! Lost! It! I posted this long rant and got thrown out of the Yahoo! group! Dudes, whatever, I don't care. I'm starting my own group!

*

Hang outs: Internet Yahoo! groups that piss her off

Gag gift: A punching bag filled with rocks

**********

GOD’S SPECIAL DISCIPLE

This person believes in the adoption-altering power of the Almighty (totally fine, but here's the kicker...), you should too, and she will not hear anything otherwise. She spends her days spreading the word in Yahoo! groups. She frequently pisses off the Bully Eeyore when she says BE must be feeling a little down because BE does not believe and maybe if BE believed BE would be happy. The good Lord gave her an amazing love for the exclamation point.

*

Sample post:

PEOPLE!!!! We must remember that our babies will come in GOD’S PERFECT TIME and not a moment before!!!! When that baby comes you can know that GOD PUT HER IN YOUR ARMS!!!!! So stop feeling SAD and start feeling the LOVE!

*

Hang outs: Churches.

Evil gag gift: A Precious Moments Satan figurine (Maybe you can enlist the help of the Industrious Little Beaver to make you one?)

************

IGNORANCE IS BLISS

This person doesn’t want to think about the wait and refuses to speculate. She would just rather just not know, thankyouverymuch. Instead, she will just go on about her life, work, school, home, eat, sleep. Almost as if she isn't waiting for anything at all.

*

Sample post:

I refuse to believe the China Center will only send another nine days. My agency says the wait will stabilize at 6 months. Those of you who are saying the wait is already at 78 years are obviously lying. I refuse to be a part of your evil game.

*

Hang outs: Anywhere, as long as she has her i-Pod playing at top volume.

Gag gifts: The URL to the Rumor Queen’s website

*********

THE POSITIVE BRIGADE

This person can find a positive lining in everything. One pictures her skipping merrily through her life, decorating her possessions with puffy stickers, hanging posters on her bathroom walls, and petting kittens. An anvil could drop on her head and she'd tell us all that she never liked the shape of her skull much anyways.

*

Sample post:

I know we’ve all been waiting forever, but think of all the good things a longer wait brings! For instance, we can travel during the fall instead of the summer, I've heard it’s really hot in China during the summer!

*

Hang outs: Disney movie showings.

Gag gifts: A big bottle of lemonade laced with LSD.

***********

THE FOOD WHORE

This person eats to make the wait go away. Mostly, that's what she does. She eats. (This is also partly moi, alas. And yes, Dr. Phil watchers, my hole is The Wait.)

*

Sample post:

I just ate an entire box of Little Debbie Snack Cakes and two bags of Baked Doritos. But they were baked! Mmmmmghghgf. I feel sick. I better eat while I can, though, because once I'm a mom that will all stop!

*

Hang outs: The snack food aisle of the supermarket, and TGIF, sometimes sharing a table with the Weenie Alcoholic.

Gag gifts: A broken scale that goes to a number fifty pounds above what the recipient weighs.

***********

THE GROOVY OEDIPUS

This is a non-denominational variation of God’s Disciples, but much more palatable overall. This person might get upset at the wait, but for the most part accepts that it is a thing she has no control over and cannot change, so why stress so much? Very laid back. Zen like. Can be mimicked by other Waiters if they smoke lots of pot, not recommended during The Wait unless you can handle being caught and having your adoption papers snatched away.

*

Sample post:

It’ll happen when it happens. I’ll get the baby meant for me. It’s fate/red thread. Things happen for a reason. Till then, I'll just try to make the best of things.

*

Hang outs: Yoga classes. Meditating. Checking out cute adoptive parent paraphernelia websites. Anywhere that she can just absorb the wait calmly.

Gag gifts: A pair of pins to gouge out the eyes.

***************

THE FREAKER

All this person can seem to do is freak out. Everything makes her freak out. She is a big raw bundle of nerves. Every rumor, every person who annoys her in the slightest, every moment of every day--is punctuated by a freak out. She can't get much done, obviously, because she is so busy finding more things to freak out about. Capitalizes a lot. (This is also prolly moi. *Sigh*)

*

Sample post:

Oh My God! Today I learned that the China Center is only going to do nine days, and I about lost it! And then my neighbor came over and asked to borrow a roll of toilet paper and I ONLY HAVE FIVE ROLLS LEFT! That means I have to go to the store tomorrow and there goes my entire day! What happens if I RUN OUT and have to use an old sock or something????

*

Hang outs: Therapist's office.

Gag gifts: A framed copy of Frankie Goes to Hollywood's album RELAX.
